We stayed at a large old house in Healesville overlooking the blue hills, a bowl of glossy persimmons was ripening on top of the piano. I moved them to the table where the orange mound of fruit reflected the hills, and painted them in lush gouache on rough paper. |

Leaves fell from the ornamental maples in Autumn. They needed nothing more than a warm mixture of red, brown and orange gouache on smooth paper to make a birthday card. |

Every girl needs a sarong painted with sunflowers for Christmas. Later I grew huge real sunflowers in the same place. |
